Syrell Racing, Michael Barnes Land First Top-Five of 2019 at Oswego Speedway

OSWEGO, NY (June 11, 2019) – Syrell Racing and driver Michael Barnes notched their first top five of the season on Saturday night at Oswego Speedway, finishing fourth in the first Novelis Supermodified Twin 35 main event.

Barnes piloted the Syrell Racing No. 68 on its first trip to victory lane earlier in the night, as “The Hustler” bested Aric Iosue, Jeff Abold, Dave Danzer and Joe Gosek in the evening’s first qualifying heat race.

Come feature time, Barnes battled with podium finishers Abold, Otto Sitterly and Dave Gruel, while keeping Gosek at bay for a fourth-place effort at the conclusion of 35-laps.

Unfortunately, Barnes could feel something wrong during the cool down lap of the first Twin event, which prompted a thorough examination of his Hawk Chassis machine between features.

The sharp eyes of the Syrell Racing crew were able to diagnose a structural issue in the front end of the No. 68, appearing to be related to their issues on opening day.

“Last week the bolt sheared and tonight we noticed a crack in the actual slug,” said team co-owner, Eric Syrell.  “It appeared as though it could potentially fall right out, so we could not risk that in the second feature and had to sit it out.”

As a result, the team determined it was in their best interest to park the car for the remainder of the evening until the issue could be properly fixed in the Hawk Fabrications shop.

The Syrell Racing team will once again look to bounce back this Saturday, June 15 for Oswego Speedway’s A&P Auto Parts main event.

Hot laps begin on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., with time trials set for 6 p.m.  Heat racing will take the green flag at 6:45 p.m.
