Broken Steering Bolt Steals Victory from Syrell Racing’s Michael Barnes at Oswego

Dan Kapuscinski Motorsports Promotions (OSWEGO, NY) – May 28, 2019 – ‘The Hustler’ Michael Barnes appeared well on his way to victory in the second Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50 at Oswego Speedway on Sunday, until a broken steering bolt sidelined the Syrell Racing No. 68.

Barnes started the second twin event at Oswego on Sunday from the pole position, alongside eventual winner Allison Sload, and jumped to the race lead at the drop of the green flag in his Hawk Chassis.

Barnes hurried out front through lap 15 until a rack and pinion tie-rod connecting bolt sheared off, sending the No. 68 into the inner hub-rail in turn four.  With Barnes sidelined, Sload raced off to become the first woman to win a Supermodified feature at Oswego Speedway.

Earlier in the day, Barnes charged from the 13th starting position to 7th in the day’s first Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50 won by defending speedway champion, Otto Sitterly.

Michael Barnes and Syrell Racing will return to Oswego Speedway on Saturday, June 8 for the Novelis Supermodified Twin 35’s.  Racing will begin at 6:45 p.m. on June 8.
