OSWEGO, NY (June 25, 2019) – In his 350 Supermodified debut, Dalton Doyle drove Syrell Racing’s 1994 Graves Supermodified chassis to victory lane on Saturday at Oswego Speedway.
Following nearly two years’ worth of hard work and determination, Doyle and crew meticulously reworked the former Big Block Supermodified into a contending 350 Supermodified.
After issues earlier in the day, Doyle and team stuck with it, making the necessary changes needed to drive from fourth in the starting order to the race lead right at the drop of the green flag.
In a green to checkered event, Doyle managed to hold off a hard charging Vern LaFave for the entire distance to reach Oswego victory lane in his first main event attempt in the Syrell Racing No. 08.
“I don’t even know what to say. After the problems we had, I thought there was no way we were making it through the feature let alone have a chance at the win. To end up getting here is crazy,” said Doyle. “On a rain delay during Classic a couple years ago, we stopped by the garage and the thing was sitting on jack stands in perfect shape. I said, ‘Gary, sell me this car,’ and he decided that he wanted to be an owner so between those guys, myself, Joey Hawksby, all my crew guys and supporters, we tried to put our heads together and put a piece on the track that could be the best it could be. It just has been an unbelievably long road and the people I’ve got behind me are incredible. My crew and all the guys have worked tirelessly day in and day out coming up with ideas. This thing was such a huge project.”
Syrell Racing Supermodified driver, Michael Barnes, was also in action on Saturday. Barnes drove the Syrell Racing No. 68 to seventh in the Supermodified main event after 50-laps and now rides 11th in the series standings.
The Syrell Racing team returns to Oswego on Saturday, July 6 for Grand Prix Night.
Hot laps begin on July 6 at 4:00 p.m., with another driver autograph session at 5:15 p.m., time trials at 6:20 p.m. and racing at 7:00 p.m.
